When Strategy Meets Scrutiny: Bridging the Gap Between Strategic Risk and Internal Audit

AcademyGlobal, in partnership with the ISRM Australia & New Zealand Chapter, invites you to a panel discussion exploring the relationship between strategic risk management and internal audit — and how the two can work more effectively together.

Strategic risk management is focused on what lies ahead, while internal audit has traditionally focused on reviewing existing processes and controls. But in a rapidly changing business environment, there is real value in bringing these perspectives together.

“The Internal Auditor’s Role in Strategic Risk Management” will look at how internal audit can move beyond a traditional assurance role and become a more active partner in supporting strategic decision-making and organisational resilience.

The discussion will be moderated by Paul Vorbach (F.ISRM, FGIA, FAICD), Vice President, ISRM ANZ, with:

  • Francesca Dickson (F.ISRM, FGIA, FCG (CS), MAICD) – Strategic Risk & Governance Advisor and Committee Member, ISRM NSW/ACT
  • Teresa Riccio-Goodwin (F.ISRM, FGIA, PMIIA) – Certified Internal Auditor and Chair, ISRM VIC/SA/TAS

The panel will explore:

  • How internal audit can better align with an organisation’s strategic priorities and wider risk landscape
  • How strategic risk identification and independent assurance can inform each other
  • How risk and audit can provide boards and senior leaders with greater confidence when making decisions in uncertain environments
  • How effective audit and assurance practices can contribute to long-term organisational resilience

Join the conversation to explore how closer collaboration between strategic risk and internal audit can support better decision-making, stronger governance and more resilient organisations.
