Level 5 Award in Urban Resilience and Major City Management – September/October 2026

A 5-Day Online Training on Urban Resilience and Major City Management

This programme is designed for professionals who are being tasked with the modelling, planning and management of major cities and complex urban environments, and with developing systems that are robust enough to respond not only to accidents, emergencies and disasters, but also to the wider structural, organisational and societal challenges associated with rapid urban growth.

It is based on lessons learned from practitioners with extensive experience in major city management and resilience, together with internationally recognised best practices and, in particular, learning drawn from the London Resilience Gold Command Crisis Management programme and other comparable political and civil initiatives. These approaches enable participants, whatever their role or environment, to utilise established templates, frameworks and methodologies to better understand, plan for and manage the complex demands placed upon modern cities.

Urban resilience and major city management cannot take place in isolation. They require the involvement and commitment of multiple agencies, organisations, communities and stakeholders, as well as the development of wider professional and institutional networks that allow cities to operate as integrated systems rather than as a collection of independently managed components.

This course covers the significant strategic, operational, structural and organisational issues that need to be taken into account when creating a holistic, integrated and, above all, sustainable approach to urban resilience and major city management.
