In Episode 8 of ISRM Voices, Musaab Fagiri, CPP sits down with Alison Buchanan, MDEM, professor at Seneca College and Niagara University, board member at CanOps, and former Duty Officer at Ontario’s Provincial Emergency Operations Centre.
Alison grew up in Mennonite country, where if a barn burned down the whole community showed up to rebuild it and no money changed hands. That lesson, and a grandmother who served as a policewoman in wartime England, carried her from geography and IT to four and a half years on the EOC floor, through more than 400 declared emergencies and COVID-19, and finally into the classroom, where she now prepares the next generation of emergency managers.
ISRM Voices is a monthly series by the ISRM Canada Chapter, shining a light on the people behind the profession. Each episode features an ISRM member sharing the stories, decisions and moments that shaped their path in security, safety, risk and resilience.
