The ISRM Canada Chapter has released the third episode of ISRM Voices, a series highlighting the human stories behind the profession.
In this episode, Jordan Myers, Project Manager – Public Safety at the City of Vancouver, reflects on the experiences that shaped his approach to public life and community:
- Portland roots — art, music and learning to show up as a guest and an ambassador
- Forest Service — teamwork in austere environments, relying on your crew rather than technology
- Australia — large-scale event management and discovering that creating gathering spaces could be a calling
- Endurance mindset — stacking days and doing the work so you’re ready for the unexpected
- Vancouver Chapter — from volunteer to race director to public safety professional, working alongside partners every weekend
- Learning and ISRM — a researcher’s mindset: asking “What am I not seeing?” and valuing a diverse, global network
Jordan’s definition of safety: Carving out public space so creativity and community can exist.
His key lesson to carry: Don’t take yourself too seriously. Hold the work seriously—add grace, humour and curiosity.
