The Institute of Strategic Risk Management (ISRM) UK Hub was delighted to host its July Exclusive Breakfast Briefing at the historic National Liberal Club, bringing together leaders from across risk, resilience, security, intelligence and defence for a morning of insightful discussion, collaboration and knowledge sharing.
Hosted in partnership with The OSINT Group and The Defence & Security Circle, the invitation only event explored how intelligence led thinking can help organisations anticipate emerging risks, strengthen strategic decision making and build resilience in an increasingly complex operating environment.
We extend our sincere thanks to our host, Noel Hadjimichael FRSA, Chair of The Defence & Security Circle, and to our guest speaker, Scott Wiener, Global Director for Security & Resilience at AtkinsRealis, for sharing their expertise, practical experience and thought provoking insights. We also thank our partners at The OSINT Group, Danni Brooke and Ben Owen, whose collaboration and support were instrumental in making the event possible.
A special thank you goes to the ISRM UK Hub team for their dedication and professionalism behind the scenes. Every successful event is the result of careful planning, teamwork and commitment, and this breakfast briefing was no exception.
Most importantly, we thank everyone who attended and contributed to the discussions. The quality of the conversations reflected the experience and expertise of those in the room and demonstrated the value of bringing together professionals from diverse sectors to exchange ideas and challenge assumptions.
Intelligence. Influence. Resilience.
A central theme emerged throughout the morning.
Intelligence, influence and resilience are not separate disciplines. They are interconnected capabilities that enable organisations to make better decisions, adapt to uncertainty and build long term resilience.
Key insights from the discussions included:
- Intelligence is not about collecting more information. It is about creating understanding that enables better decisions.
- Every organisation has intelligence gaps. Identifying and addressing them is essential to reducing strategic risk.
- Assumptions can become vulnerabilities. Asking better questions helps distinguish facts from assumptions and strengthens decision making.
- Influence begins with credibility. Trusted intelligence enables leaders to shape strategy, communicate effectively and inspire confidence.
- Resilience is built long before disruption occurs through preparation, collaboration and intelligence led decision making.
- Strong partnerships and diverse perspectives strengthen an organisation’s ability to anticipate change and respond with confidence.
As organisations continue to navigate geopolitical uncertainty, cyber threats, disinformation, supply chain disruption and evolving strategic risks, the need for intelligence led leadership has never been greater.
The discussions reinforced a simple but powerful message.
Resilience is not built by chance. It is built through better intelligence, better decisions, stronger relationships and a commitment to continuous learning.
The July Executive Breakfast Briefing highlighted the importance of creating spaces where leaders can exchange ideas, challenge conventional thinking and develop practical solutions to today’s complex challenges.
We look forward to continuing these conversations and welcoming our community to future ISRM events as we work together to strengthen resilience across organisations, sectors and society.
