Global Crisis Watch 250

You are invited to join us for Global Crisis Watch 250:

GCW started off as Coronavirus Campfire in March 2020, at the start of the global Covid-19 lockdown.

It was an opportunity for the ISRM global community to share its thoughts on what was happening in those unprecedented days when we didn’t know whether we were on the edge of a planetary-level disaster or not.

Over the last three and a half years, we have recorded the thoughts, hopes and fears of people from around the world.

It has been a global longitudinal record of the reality that we have been living through and that one day will be a valuable historical record of these tumultuous times.

In early 2022 we changed the name from Coronavirus Campfire to Global Crisis Watch to reflect the transition from a pandemic-focussed programme to one that observed and commented on world affairs as they were unfolding.

It has been impressive how often the GCW community has spotted trends or identified issues before they have hit the headlines.

One obvious example is that from the start of Covid-19, and throughout the two years of the pandemic period, we are constantly commenting that we couldn’t see what the UK governments plans were to engage with the issues raised by the pandemic, or where the strategic thinking was.

That is something that has been confirmed by the evidence given in the on-going Public Enquiry, where it has been made clear that actually there was never a plan or any strategic thinking associated with the national response.

For record of the first year of Coronavirus Campfire, and a record of the events of those times, please see the following reports:

Join us for the landmark GCW 250, and share your thoughts on the world’s major stories, as well as those that are more local and personal.
