Founder Igarape Institute, SecDev Group

 

For over two decades, Robert has worked on the forefront of debates on public security, digital resilience, and smarter cities. He co-founded the SecDev Group, a digital risk consultancy firm specializing in intelligence-as-a-service, data science-on-demand and strategic foresight. He also co-founded the Igarapé Institute - an award-winning "think and do tank" committed to data-driven and evidence-based public, digital and climate security.

Robert has led multiple large-scale research initiatives, impact evaluations and tech product development for national/city governments and international agencies, including McKinsey, the UN, BID and the World Bank. He advises McKinsey on smart cities and sits on the board of several govtech and civtech start-ups.

His work and travel spans over 100 countries. He has served on multiple high level UN panels, co-founded the open access journal Stability and written eight books and over 100 peer-review articles. He is a non-resident faculty at Singularity University and taught at the University of San Diego, the Graduate Institute, PUC in Rio de Janeiro and UBC. Robert is also a fellow at Princeton University, the Chicago Council for Global Affairs, the Canadian Global Affairs Institute, and the World Economic Forum’s Council on Cities and the annual Global Risk Report.
